A New Vision for
K12 STEAM Education
This Section of the website hosts the following statements that describe a new vision for K12 STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) education:
- Statement of Philosophy: This page describes the philosophical foundation upon which the new vision for K12 STEAM education is built.
- The Vision Paper: This page hosts the Vision Paper and summarizes its major components.
- History of the Vision: This page describes the long process the new vision for K12 STEAM education has been formulated, based on the integration of past lessons and experience from academic communities and personal insight gained through teaching, learning and working experience: :::: This page : This page : This page : This page : : : ::::::::::::::: ::::::: : : This page : .
- Research Project for the Vision Paper: This page hosts my past research project completed in support of the vision paper, during my doctoral-level graduate studies at the University of Georgia College of Education.
- Planning and Progress Report: This page describes the plan of research and implementation of the proposed model for the future K12 engineering and technology education.
Heroes of the Mankind &
Their Common Character
The following heroes of the mankind share one common character: They all worked hard for the real benefits of the really disadvantaged peoples within the established social system, and promoted peace and harmony among people of different races, ethnic groups and social classes, in a gradual, incremental and modest manner.
Kangxi Emperor, the greatest monarch in Chinese history, personally engaged in farming to create better crops and to feed hungry people.
Andrew Carnegie, a great Scottish American entrepreneur, dedicated most of his wealth to education, library construction, and charity.
David Livingstone, British explorer and Christian missionary, fought for the emancipation of African slaves.
Florence Nightingale, a great British woman born into riches, devoted all her life to social reform, scholarship, and nursing service.
Cecil Rhodes, founder of Rhodes Scholarships, practiced liberal policies towards Irish and African peoples at a time when both were disadvantaged..
Guangxu Emperor, started China's transition from traditional to modern society with democratic and progressive reforms.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of the greatest world leader, fought for the economic security and prosperity of all Americans.
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, one of the greatest world leaders, fought for the freedom of all nations (photo by United States Library of Congress).
Lee Kuan Yew, Founding Father of the Republic of Singapore, promoted a harmonious multi-cultural society in South-East Asia.
Xi Zhongxun, grandson-in-law of Xi Dahu, a body guard of Guangxi Emperor, and father of Xi Jinping, the current President of China, promoted economic reforms for China's modernization.
Martin Luther King, Jr.,an American hero, promoted inter-racial harmony among Americans of all racial and ethnic groups.
American hero Cesar Chavez is known as a great crusader for the economic benefits of Mexican-American farm workers (photo by United States Department of Labor).
Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a Roman Catholic nun from Albania, took care of the needs of the poorest people of India (photo by Túrelio)
John F. Kennedy promoted civil rights for the disadvantaged minority groups in the United States.
Jimmy carter promoted international peace and is a great leader of the Habitat for Humanity charitable project.

Potential Intellectual Merit
of this Website ...
Two major shortcomings of current practice in K12 engineering education are: (1) lack of well-defined engineering analytic and predictive knowledge content; and (2) lack of cohesive analytic and predictive skills based on scientific principles and computational formulas. These problems have been explored in the authoritative report titled Engineering in K-12 Education: Understanding the Status and Improving the Prospects, released by the United States National Academy of Engineering/National Research Council Committee on K12 Engineering Education, on September 8, 2009 (pages 7-8, and 151). Currently, K12 engineering curriculum is heavily focused on "trial-and-error" design process without a systematic inclusion of basic engineering analytic and predictive principles or skills incorporating various subjects of engineering studies. The online publication of the outcomes of the research project on this website is aimed at offering K12 students an opportunity to learn a fairly substantial amount of engineering content knowledge and skills integrated with existing K12 mathematics and science (physics and chemistry) curricula, and transferable to college-level engineering programs. The integrative approach of the research on this website could assist existing K12 engineering and technology programs to solve the problems discussed by the National Academy of Engineering/National Research Council Committee on K12 Engineering Education report, in any way of their own choice; and the outcomes of the research are hereby presented for nationwide dissemination. The ultimate objective of this research is the eventual establishment of a SCHOLAR STEAM K12 Plus Model of American education as advocated in my Vision Paper.
Potential Broad Impact
of this Project ...
The research project presented on this website could (a) Influence the academic infrastructure for fostering engineering literacy among K12 students; (b) Better prepare K12 schools and students for STEAM-related careers, by providing opportunities to master sufficient amount of knowledge and skills in engineering at an earlier age; by preparing students for the rigors of engineering programs, this research project could offer a realistically promising strategy to increase the number of U.S. students earning bachelor of science degrees in engineering; (c) Supplement K12 STEM teacher education programs by facilitating transfer of engineering knowledge to help future students better understand the applications of mathematics and scientific principles in real world engineering design practice; and (d) Prepare for possible recommendation for improvement to local and national performance standards for K12 engineering education, upon completion of several rounds of pedagogic experiments in K12 classrooms.
