Engineering Economics for K12
This page is reserved for online publications of research data, articles, and other documents, peer-reviewed or not, as well as any constructive criticism, comments and advice, related to the determination of K-12 age-possible topics in statistics and probabilities, as an instrument for the implementation of the ideas explored in the vision paper titled Proposed Model for a Streamlined, Cohesive, and Optimized K-12 STEM Curriculum with a Focus on Engineering.
Research CONCLUSION
A careful analysis of the course content as revealed by the college-level textbooks used in the probability and statistics course has lead to the conclusion that for all practical purposes, the majority of all knowledge content in the selected textbooks could be taught to high school students. Thus, the research on this subject has been completed.

Textbooks Used as Sources of Data
Engineering Economic Analysis, 10th Edition, written by Donald G. Newnan, Jerome P. Lavelle, and Ted G. Eschenbach, 605 pages long, is one of the most popular textbooks on the subject and has been used at East Los Angeles College and many other places. After a careful and thorough examination of all pages in this textbook, it has been concluded that (1) for all practical purposes, no pre-requisite skills needed in physics or chemistry, and (2) the mathematics concepts and skills required for the study of the topics are minimal and they include [four operations], [power], [root], [inequality], [log], [natural log], [limit], [infinity], [chart], [flow chart], [graph], [percentage], and [summation], all at pre-calculus level. Therefore, all topics in this textbook could be high school age-possible, and could be suitable in the proposed Capstone Engineering Design and Research course. Nevertheless, this course does require students to have a higher level cognitive maturity, and the difficult part is to use appropriate pedagogy to get abstract ideas into the brain of high school students.

Engineering Economy, 13th Edition, written by William G. Sullivan, Elin M. Wicks, and James T. Luxhoj, 664 pages long, also used at East Los Angeles College and many other places, is another of the most popular textbooks on the subject. After a careful and thorough examination of all pages in this textbook, it has been concluded that (1) for all practical purposes, no pre-requisite skills needed in physics or chemistry, and (2) the mathematics concepts and skills required for the study of the topics are minimal and they include [four operations], [power], [root], [inequality], [log], [natural log], [limit], [infinity], [chart], [flow chart], [graph], [percentage], and [summation], except for Section 12.2 (The Distribution of Random Variables), pages 500-503, which involve 8 formulas using [first order integral] calculus skill, and this skill could be treated as a special mathematics topic, or these Sections could be eliminated altogether.
